Giving Ohioans a Second Chance

The Reentry Clinic assists clients whose criminal convictions prevent them from getting jobs or housing. Remedies include court sealing, expungment, human trafficking expungement, Certificates of Qualification for Employment (CQE) and Housing (CQH), and pardons.

The Reentry Clinic has been recognized by AALS as an “Innovative and Outstanding Program” and recently by The Ohio Supreme Court Reentry Task Force as an “Ohio Promising Practice.

Ohio Governor’s Expedited Pardon Project

Answering the Governor's Call

In partership with The Office of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, the Ohio Governor's Expedited Pardon Project assists eligible clients with an expedited pardon of their Ohio convictions.

As of fall 2024, the University of Akron clinic has assisted more than 163 clients with the expedited pardon prcess. 99 of the clinic's clients have received pardons.

Civil Litigation Clinic

Addressing Unmet Legal Needs

Through a partnership with Community Legal Services, the Civil Practice Clinic assists low-income clients who are experiencing housing problems.

The Civil Practice Clinic has been recognized by Community Legal Services as “Law Firm of the Year.”

Small Entrepreneur and Economic Development (SEED) Clinic

Supporting Emerging Entrepreneurs

The Small Entrepreneur and Economic Development (SEED) Clinic provides legal and business assistance to small emerging businesses in the local community. Assistance can include business planning, operating agreements, and contract/lease issues.

The SEED Clinic has been recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration as a “Legal Services Champion.”

Trademark Clinic

Protecting Trademark Rights

The Trademark Clinic assists businesses and individuals in protecting their trademark rights. Students in this clinic conduct trademark searches, interview clients, file trademark applicaitons, and respond to Office Actions.

The Trademark Clinic is one of 60 clinics designed by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to offer patent and trademark applicants access to pro bono services.
